Frown lines are very common and become increasingly prevalent as we get older. In most instances, they do not significantly affect a person’s cosmetic appearance but some people feel the need to treat them.
Whenever we are worried or angry we use our Corrugator Supercilii and Procerus muscles in our forehead which gives the distinctive furrowed brow appearance. Over many years of using these muscles, the frown lines can become permanent, regardless of our emotion, which is when people often consider Botox.
By administering Botox injections into the nerves that supply these muscles they can be temporarily prevented from contracting. This has the effect of smoothing out the forehead and therefore reducing the frown lines.
You need to understand however that once the Botox has worn off (normally around 4 months) the frown lines will return to what they were previously, as the muscles start to work again. At this point, you will need to have the Botox procedure repeated to maintain the same results. If you continue to have repeat treatments the muscles do tend to weaken meaning the results of Botox may last for as long as 6 months although this is not guaranteed.
In summary, Botox is extremely effective at treating people with frown lines and the vast majority of people are very happy with the results is produces.
